Partake of His Presence

I have got the sweetest little story to share with you today, and it’s a true story which is, of course, the best kind. A missionary went over to minister in the country of China. While he was there he was invited to the home of a local person who had accepted Jesus as their personal Savior. He felt so honored to be invited over for dinner, because he had never before shared a meal with someone from China. So the time came when they all sat down at the dining room table, and since the missionary was pretty hungry, he started looking at all the food on the table. There was some squash boiled in water, there was some rice, and soup and a casserole of vegetables. Then he looked over at the host expecting him to ask him to say the blessing, but instead the new Christian stood up at the table and he looked up to the ceiling and said, “Please heavenly Father, come partake with us.”

You see, it’s a custom in China that if someone happens to come over while the family is eating that they will say “Come, partake with us.” This newly converted Christian had such an intimate sense of the presence of God in his home that it came very naturally for him to say “Heavenly Father, come partake with us.” And then he thanked God for the food. And folks, I just want to say that God wants to be that real to each of us today. He wants us to know down deep in our hearts that He is by our side, not just some of the time, but all the time. He wants us to acknowledge His presence in our homes and in our lives, and He wants us to talk to Him throughout the day and make Him an intimate part of our lives, because He’s real, His presence is real and He’s there because He loves us so much.

The Psalmist David wrote about the presence of God in His life in Psalm 139 beginning with verse 7 where it says “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me, Your right hand will hold me fast. (I love the part, where it says His right hand will hold me fast.) Then verse 11 says “If I say `Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,’ even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for the darkness is as light to you.”

Folks, there may be times when we feel that we are as far from God as we can possibly be, but that’s just not the case. According to the word of God, He’s there for us no matter where our lives take us. He’s there in the good times, He’s there in the bad, and He’s there even when we feel like every person we’ve ever trusted has walked out on us. God never walks out on us. He’s always there even when we don’t see Him, even when we don’t feel Him and even if we feel like we don’t even know Him very well. He’s there for us because He has such a Father’s heart for us. He created us. We are His beloved children and He chooses to make us WORTH the regard of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! And with such an awesome love like this, shouldn’t we just love Him back with everything we’ve got? No…more than that!

“It’s a GREAT thing to give thanks...”
